World Languages and Technology


The use of technology in World Language instruction is essential to student learning. Here are resources and suggestions to help you improve your daily delivery of content.
There are so many ways to integrate technology in teaching language that after seeing some of the tools available, it is only your creativity that needs to be stirred to bring new vigor to your course. Let's investigate the possibilities.




First, websites to enrich and expand the classroom experience:
  1. EduFire - live language video tutoring
  2. Audacity - Audacity is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds. LAME MP3 encoder - Allows Audacity to export MP3 files.
  3. LANGWITCHES.ORG-Technology Integration in the Foreign Language and English Language Learner Classroom includes standards, ideas, projects, tutorials, and software reviews. The goal is to encourage foreign language and ESL teachers to learn and experiment with technology and at the same time, become comfortable enough to expand their teaching methodology to include different kinds of technologies into their classrooms.
  4. Peace Corps audio files and lesson plans - Subscribe and listen to language lessons from around the world. Click on a language lesson in order to listen to the lesson in your default media player. Or you can subscribe to the lessons as podcasts.

  7. Quia - subscription site for teachers and students to join the World Wide Web.
  8. Teacher's Guide to International Collaboration on the Internet - The Teacher's Guide to International Collaboration was developed to help teachers use the Internet to "reach out" globally. These materials were prepared as part of the Department of Education's International Education Initiative.
  9. Nicenet - Nicenet is an Internet Classroom Assistant (ICA2), a sophisticated communication tool that brings powerful World-Wide-Web based conferencing, personal messaging, document sharing, scheduling and link/resource sharing to a variety of learning environments
  10. International PenPals - A great way to make friends around the world and to practice your language skills is to get an international pen friend. Europa Pages are offering this FREE service to everyone: students wishing to meet other language learners, teachers wanting to exchange ideas or anyone keen to make new contacts in other countries.
